While we all have questions, it is best to remember that prior to asking, we look up the answer for ourselves. We have put together a list here of the most commonly asked questions relating to a rally.
1. What is an RV rally?
An RV rally is a gathering of RV enthusiasts that want to come together due to a common interest and are often organized by owners, clubs, manufacturers, or dealerships, featuring social activities, seminars, and entertainment.
2. Who can attend an RV rally?
Most rallies are organized with a common theme for attendees, such as a specific manufacturer or specific club members, whereas others are open to all RVers no matter what RV you have or even if you don't have an RV at all (these are refered to often as an SOB Rally, or Some Other Brand).
3. What does SOB mean in the RV world?
SOB stands for “Some Other Brand,” used to describe RVs that are not the host brand of the rally.
4. What activities are common at RV rallies?
Seminars, potlucks, live music, vendor exhibits, games, crafts, and group tours or outings are common. Most rallies are very social in nature so activities tend to revolve around this.
5. How do I find RV rallies to attend?
Check RV manufacturer or club websites, social media groups like Facebook, campground bulletin boards, and websites.
6. Do I need to register in advance?
Yes, most rallies require advance registration, sometimes months ahead, especially for large events. Most will also require payment in full when registering.
7. Are rallies family-friendly?
Many rallies are family-friendly, with kid-specific activities. It is best to check the specific event you are planning to attend to be sure as some rallies have very little to no family attend and do not have kid specific activites.
8. How much does it cost to attend an RV rally?
Costs vary from free to several hundred dollars, depending on the rally’s size, location, and amenities. This is also where you want to check with the specific rally you plan to attend as some rallies your costs include an RV site while others may not and you'l have to reserve a RV site directly with the resort.
9. What’s typically included in the rally fee?
Fees often cover campsite fees, some meals, entertainment, seminars, and welcome gifts or swag.
10. Can I attend a rally without an RV?
Some allow attendees to rent cabins or come as day guests, but many require you to have an RV.
11. Are pets allowed at rallies?
Most RV rallies are pet-friendly, but there may be rules about leash use, designated pet areas, and pet-friendly events. Some resorts where rallies are held may also have restrictions on the number of pets you may bring as well as certain dog breed restrictions. While the WagonMaster for the rally will try to cover what is allowed and what is not, it is up to you to research the specific resort for the rally for determination.
12. What is dry camping or boondocking at a rally?
This means camping without hookups—no water, electricity, or sewer.
13. Do all rallies have FHU RV sites?
Most rallies offer FHU (full hook up) aminities. But some may only offer partial (water/electric only).
14. Are there opportunities to meet new people?
Absolutely—socializing is a big part of the rally experience. Expect potlucks, campfire chats, and mixers.
15. Can I buy RV related products or services at rallies?
Yes, most rallies have vendors that will attend to sell RV parts, gadgets, and services, and some offer onsite installations or discounts. It is best if you plan to buy a big cost or weight product or serivce from a vendor to contact them prior to the rally to pre-order or to let them know of your interest so they can prepare and have these items available to you at the rally.
16. What if I’m a solo traveler?
Solo RVers are welcome! Many rallies have meetups or groups specifically for solo travelers.
17. Is alcohol permitted at rallies?
Absolutely!!!!!! While activities at rallies vary when it comes to alcohol consumption, some rallies are more "adult drink" friendly with activites revolving specifically around alcohol, such as the Cool RV Everything Camp Crawl Social.
18. Can I bring a guest who doesn’t own an RV?
While most rallies are open to guest attending with you, there may be restrictions or additional costs. You may need to pay an additional fee per guest, if they bring an RV they may have to make their own reservations at the resorts and park in a non-rally related site, etc. Usually a guest that is just coming in for a day to visit and say hi is ok as they are not part of the rally nor being involved in any activity of the rally.
19. Are rallies accessible for people with disabilities?
Most larger rallies make accessibility a priority, but it’s best to check with the organizers in advance as they are limited to the aminities of the resort where the rally is hosted. With some rallies, the best they can do for disabilities accomodations is to place you in an RV site close to where most activities will take place.
20. What’s the best way to prepare for my first rally?
READ READ READ all the information given to you and the event details. You want to pack essentials, bring chairs, etc. and be ready to mingle and learn!
21. What is the best way to insure I will enjoy the rally?
Enjoying the rally will be 100% on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While the WagonMasters will try to have activities for everyone to enjoy, attending with a bad attitude or a "you owe me" attitude, most likely will mean you will not have a good time. As rallies are a social event, it is best to get out and be social.
22. Can I cancel my registration at any time?
While you can cancel your registration at any time, please be mindful of the cancellation policy for each rally as they may differ. With most rallies you can cancel at any time and still receive a full refund. However, many rallies have a 30 day prior policy. Meaning that if you cancel 30 days prior you can receive a full refund, but after the 30 day prior you may only receive a refund, whether partial or full, if the WagonMasters are able to fill your spot. And no, just because you have a medical emergency within the 30 day window, does not mean sympathy will get you a refund.
